Cablecast App Redesign

It was a customer request to update Cablecast’s available apps to allow more design features, so I was tasked with coming up with a design that we could use across all of our tv apps and mobile apps.

The challenge with this design is that all the different app stores have different looks to their apps, and different requirements for developers to publish apps to the public. I wanted to marry these designs, which providing the customer with the ability to bring their own branding, images and colors to their whitelabel app. This design also included the main Cablecast app itself, where all Cablecast customer channels are available for free. There was an added level of challenge to that app, because there is a base screen where you can select which channel you want to view, and then the un-branded app needed to work in design for all of our customers with all of their various branding.

With my design, the sidebar nagivation allowed us to use the customer’s brand color and display their logo, with the background behind the video could be anything that fit the customer’s brand. Text and titles could also display brand colors as accents, allowing a lot of customizability. An added feature was the new ‘about us’ page, where a station could put information about themselves, display their social media or contact information, and even display videos related to their station, like a welcome or about video. For the main Cablecast app, I kept colors neutral and dark, while providing a small banner at the top of the screen that could display customer branding.

This design was ultimately implemented for Roku TV, iOS and Android mobile, with plans to convert apple tv and fire tv over time.
