HWCAM Demo Site

A screenshot of the HWCAM demo website's homepage, showing the navigation bar with logo and links, a subnavigation bar, a welcome banner and a grid of video thumbnails.

The goal of this demo site was to trial run building custom wordpress websites for clients. We offered the service for free to one of our beta-test customers, going through the full process of discovery, planning, wireframes, mockups and build. We wanted to offer the client an updated, easier to use website that offered more content to his users: local residents who both watch his station’s programming, but also used his station’s resources to create their own programming to be be broadcast from the station.

The challenge of this site was to use the custom theme had I had previously built for Cablecast and customize it to fit this client’s needs. This included making up custom pages that were not included in the base theme, and adding functionality on client request. Primarily this was re-styling the videos to show a ‘watch’ button, as well as a thumbnail hover that displayed a description of the video. The content of his current site was gathered and organized to be easier to find and a sub navigation was added to get users to the content they wanted to see faster.

The wireframes, mockups and an interactive prototype are available in Figma.
